Small Things

I feel good about not spending money.  Even on fabric.  I'll admit it's hard and it can be a struggle.  There is just so much out there to want!

Fat Quarter Shop has been having some great Birthday specials every day and when it was the thread day, I had to restock.  How can I quilt without thread?!  Its essential, a necessity!

Aurifil Thread
I added some white (2024), Light Blue Grey (2610), Dove (2600), Beige (2314) and Light Beige (2310).  All neutral colors that I will use over and over again.  A good score and a good price!

Hooray for solids!  I was lucky enough to have won this charm pack!  Alyce from Blossom Heart Quilts was celebrating her third year of blogging with a week of giveaways.  She is so gracious and generous!

The fabric feels wonderful and the colors, well you know!  Just a rainbow of smiles!

I'm trying to come up with a project for this stack sooner rather than later.  Got any suggestions?!  I could just stick it on my shelf and look at it day after day after day, but I'm kind of tired of doing that!  That leads to frustration.  You can only hold on to and look at fabric for so long, right?  I need to get over it and start slicing and dicing!

New thread, new fabric...no excuses!

While taking pictures of one of my Wave Wall Hangings (which I will share soon), I accidentally snapped a picture.  I was all ready to delete it until I saw it.  Quilt Porn/Centerfold shot!  It reminded me of a tidal wave, which seemed pretty fitting considering it was all about the waves on this piece!

  1. Good basic neutral threads are such a must for the stash! I am itching to "buy one of every color" from Aurifil and make a beautiful peg board to display them all. I've held off on that urge for a while, but it sounds so good. I really like the Denise Schmidt solids - they are lovely to work with. Charm packs stump me a bit - I tend to not want to cut or sew them up too much smaller at that point. Good luck finding the perfect pattern to use!

    1. Wouldn't it be heaven to have one of every color?! If nothing else, it would make for a gorgeous picture! I'm anxious to use the charm pack. The fabric feels wonderful. I get stumped on what to use a charm pack for as well. I'm sure there are many uses for them, I just have to get searching!

  2. I got some beautiful solid charm packs recently and I think I'm just going to do random half square triangles with a few solids and maybe a few quarter squares. I'm just planning on enjoying the color :) I would love to know your plans eventually. Maybe it would kick start some creativity for me. But I think I'm just going to slice and dice. Do some smaller stripes, cubes, etc. probably not curves, but who knows? Congratulations on getting some good thread! I totally missed that one.

    1. HST's are always a good choice. The possibilities are endless! Check the link that Andrea York (comment below) attached. That one looks like fun!

    1. You now have me leaning towards floating squares now! I appreciate the link! It seems charm squares stump me just as much as prints do!

  4. When you decide make sure you share! I have a charm pack of Kona solids that have sat on my shelf for ages because I am a bit stumped and I just don't want to trim a million HSTs!

    1. I for sure will share what I make! I find if funny that it is so hard to come up with something to make out of a charm pack! Like you, I really don't want to go with the obvious…HST's on this one!

  5. You should do something with that solid charm pack that emulates the quilt porn photo! I love the etheral feeling and abstract image. You'd have to do long strips and piece the charm pack - but you can do it. It'd be lovely. And I missed the Aurifil sale. Darn it.

    1. Isn't that a great 'accident' photo?! I always have so much fun playing with angles, close ups and strange shots! The Aurifil sale was only for 24 hours and 5 colors, but the price was a deal and who can't use neutrals? I'm going back and forth on how to use the charm pack. I've searched and even have messed with a couple designs of my own. For some reason I have a hard time picking patterns/designs when I feel like doing something original!

  6. Quilt porn, lol! That really made me chuckle. Those solid charms had me thinking about a gigantic version of the confetti in your encapsulated quilt. What if you did one giant version of the circle in the middle of that quilt, but used the charm squares as the little cut up bits? Can't wait to see whatever you make of them!

    1. I'm always hesitant when I post the words 'Quilt Porn'! Crazy, wild, amazing shots of fabric or quilts really is interesting to me. I have never thought about doing a confetti version with a charm pack…you could be on to something!! I really like that idea. I have been searching for ideas on how to use charm packs, and it just becomes frustrating to me. For some reason I feel like I need to do something original that I have designed. This is why I don't have any patterns of my own out there!!

  7. Spools of thread are like groceries. You have to have them. And what a score on that giveaway. Your pic of the edge with all those yummy colours fanned out makes me so happy. I'm guilty of using that same shot... fabric porn indeed. I don't buy a lot of charm packs, so I don't have a tonnes of ideas, but I have made a couple Charm Pack Cherry (free pattern from FQS) lately. They go together quickly, but don't look like they do! All those colours with a dark grey, or even black, would be fab!

    1. You can't argue that Jenn!! I love trying to get interesting and different shots of fabric, thread or quilts! I love looking at them and 'porn' just means I love a good 'cheese cake' or 'centerfold' shot!
