I will admit that I used this challenge in a very selfish way. Naturally I was excited about the fabric, but I felt like it would be so much fun to use with my Star Thistle block.
'GET THE POINT' 23" x 23" |
I wanted to explore the frame aspect of the block. I decided to use a light grey for the center and bring a darker different shade of grey radiating out. The centers of the blocks are a really dark grey that was also used in the final on-point frame.
You can see the shade variations here. Light grey to a black border. Too bad about that dark grey looking black!
The original block was comprised of (4) 6" blocks to make one 12" block. This time I reduced the block size, making the center block 8" finished.
This quilt screamed loud and clear that geometric quilting was the only way to go, so I naturally obliged! Aurifil off-white thread...only! I have to say I feel like I used a lot of restraint in the quilting. I didn't quilt on any of the colors, not one section!
The back shows what I'm talking about! Restraint! There are times when it's needed, when it's called for.
I really like how this turned out. I had no idea when I first designed the block that it would have so many possibilities.
Thank you Afton for the fun challenge and the fabulous fabric! I'm excited to see what the other competitors came up with!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt Jayne and love the block!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great use of your pattern and the round elements prints! I like how the on point frame changes in value as it radiates out, and the quilting does set of this mini just right. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a super cute mini quilt. I love it!
ReplyDeleteThis really is a versatile block. Love the wall hanging - and your quilting really compliments the design. Nice finish!
ReplyDeleteI never would have thought so when I first started designing it, but I have yet to tire of it!
DeleteCreative. Awesome. Modern to the max! I love everything about it. The color placement. The shades of gray. It tickles my brain how the gaps (negative space?) in the block and border design echos the little gaps (white circles) in the fabric. The quilting is perfect and it is good you used restraint. More would have been too much.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing way to use your block. It is so striking with the color choices! And the QUILTING! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat is really a beautiful block! I love the possibilities!

ReplyDeleteIts really cool and I could see a whole bed quilt done this way.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely wonderful, clean lines and so modern.
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I really like the grey gradiations rippling out from the center. Lovely use of your block!
ReplyDeleteYeah!! I'm sure you had trouble using only one thread colour. LOL I'm hoping to make this block soon. Hoping to be productive this long weekend...although I've been on the computer all night trying to catch up on blog reading.
ReplyDeleteI just love it when you decide to explore! I love this utilization of your star thistle - it's very striking.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of circles in the fabric with the spikey elements of your block. Well, there's a whole lot more I like, but that is what jumped out at me first.
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning wall hanging! The white background with black and gray make those colored points really pop!
ReplyDeleteWow! I love this quilt design, that block is perfect for these fabrics, those points!! Stunning quilting finishes it off nicely!
