In Memory

I rarely share a lot of my personal life on my blog or any social media.  It's something I keep to myself, and frankly it isn't all that exciting!  Today, I'm choosing to share the saddest of events.  As a therapy, as a remembrance, as a way to honor.

Friday me and my family learned that my oldest brother Michael had passed away from an apparent heart attack.

The shock was terrible.  The grief unbearable.  My heart is heavy.  I don't have adequate words to express myself and how we or I feel.  We just got our Mother settled a couple weeks ago back in Portland, where she would be closer to many of her children.  She was looking forward to being with her son once again.  My heart is broken for her.

Michael was a grumpy old man!!  A grumpy old man with a heart of gold!  It was all part of his charm to me!  My children use to call him Uncle Bubble Gum because he would often stop by after work and drop a package of bubble gum through the mail slot for each of them.
This photo is one of my favorites.  Gruff, but with a twinkle in his eye.  I loved him so much and he will be missed.

Our family has a void that will never be filled with the loss of Mike The Spike! (a name bestowed upon him by our Grandpa)

We will grieve together as a family.  We will come together as a family.  We will never forget our dear brother.

Take the time today to tell someone you love them.  You could put if off until tomorrow...but don't.

  1. So sorry for you and your family. Hard to take when so unexpected. I wondered why you were going to Oregon this week. Dwell on the joy he brought to you and your mother. Consider yourself hugged and travel safely.

  3. Jayne, I am so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you and your family. Your advise to tell someone you love them today and not put it off is spot on. Time is fleeting and moves so fast, we don't always realize that we put even the simplest things like showing/telling love until it is to late. Sending lots of hugs, love and prayers to you, my friend.

  5. A sudden loss is so hard to cope with. Getting your feelings out in writing might be just what you needed to do at that moment. I lost my oldest sibling (a sister) a few weeks ago. So many emotions and thoughts to deal with. I'll keep you in my prayers.

  11. I am so, so sorry to hear of your loss and the whole this will leave in your family, Jayne. Lots of love to you and let me know if you ever need a listening ear as you go through the grief process. It's hard. I learned that asking, "Are you OK?" allowed those profoundly hurt by grief the ability to honestly say no if they needed to. So... are you OK? Again, lots of love to you.

  12. Losing a love one so quickly is never easy, Jayne. The heart ache, the pain, the memories and the wishes that he were still here are sometimes overwhelming. Take your time to grieve, fill your days with the ones you love and the things you love to do, and talk to him! Your brother is still with you and can hear you. Ask him to send you an undeniable sign and it will give you peace. Blessings to you!
