There are not any blocks with one square in them...hmmm...
I was so excited seeing all the blocks I took this picture before realizing the mistake! It is certainly better to catch it early!
Just putting the blocks on the design wall can be confusing! I thought I had it too! After sewing a few rows together I posted a picture on Instagram. Turned out to be a good thing too! Cynthia who blogs at Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework, had a keen eye! She pointed out what she thought was a misplace block...and she was right! The block with the pink pin, yeah...wrong! It was an easy fix (thankfully)! Thank you so much Cynthia, you saved what could have been a disaster!
The first quilt had a beautiful aqua backing, so naturally I wanted something different for this one. I went with black. And white.
I also decided I would quilt this one myself. I loved the long arm design on the first quilt and thought I could do a variation of that with my machine. I was worried it wouldn't be as effective, but it turned out great. I was very pleased!

The optical illusion is really awesome. I am glad you were able to catch all the piecing troubles when it did not take a lot of effort to fix; and hooray for helpful extra sets of eyes!

DeleteYou must be dreaming in black and white by now! I love this quilt! I really admire the patience and attention to detail it must take. (Yay for friends' attention too!) I just don't have that in me, not now, at least. So, I will enjoy yours and marvel at the way it tricks my eyes!

DeleteAbsolutely amazing Jayne! I have been waiting to see this one all finished and you did not disappoint. I was happy to provide a second set of eyes - I have had to lift a block from a finished quilt too many times.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't have been more thankful that you caught my mistake! Sometimes we try and power through something, only to find one little mistake that could ruin the entire piece! I was especially pleased with the quilting! I loved the design on the first quilt and was sure I could come close to it myself!

ReplyDeleteI found the illusion on pinterest and knew I had to figure out how to make it in to a quilt. Once I figured out the block construction it wasn't bad.

DeleteThis is just amazing, just like the first one. I had to laugh and you putting your directions away so safe and secure as to not be able to find them. I've done that with a few things before. 2 days before we moved across the country, I picked up a few FMQ templates (the kind you use with the powdered chalk) - I still can't find them and it's been 2 years and another move! I don't think they'll turn up at this point. But I always remind myself that I'm not as bad as my mother was. She'd hide Christmas gifts and not be able to find them for a few years!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying something new in hopes of not losing anymore directions. I have one file folder where I'm putting everything, it just has to work!! You may be right…after 2 years I don't think they will turn out! We try so hard to be organized and the harder we try the more lost they become! What a funny story about your Mom! I haven't reached that level…yet!
DeleteAnother awesome quilt, Jayne! The design might be interesting in some different bright solids as well. I also put things away for safe keeping. I am missing 8 balls of lovely variegated wool roving yarn that I can not find anywhere in the house. I cleaned and reorganized two years ago when I inherited my Mom's sewing machines and supplies.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if the design and illusion would work with different colors. It might be worth a try! Isn't it funny that the harder we try to keep things 'safe', the more lost they become! It isn't easy being organized!

ReplyDeleteOnce I found the right design, I just knew it was the one for me! It would be nice if we could make everything on our lists! The trouble is they grow faster than we could possibly make them!
DeleteThis quilt is awesome! It is such a great illusion! I have misplaced directions and notes so many times, I try to be careful and keep them in only one place now and that seems to work most of the time.
