These smocks will end up at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital NICU in Nashville. They are so appreciated by both the hospital and the parents and a fantastic way to give back to the community.
There was a quite hum of sewing machines and constant chatter among us all. A most enjoyable way to spend the afternoon!
Within a few hours we managed to put together from start to finish 96 NICU smocks. You would think that would last a while, but the sad truth is it is never enough.
Lindsay Conner (Lindsey Sews Blog) has been instrumental in making this project a success by hosting a Charity Sew through Craftsy. 2nd Annual Craftsy Charity Sew-Along.
Through her, Craftsy and the remarkable kindness of others, there will be over 950 more smocks that will be donated to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital Nashville!
A big THANK YOU to the ladies of the Music City Modern Quilt Guild, Lindsay, Craftsy and all the other people who made smocks...you will make a family very happy!
Wow, that is a pretty amazing amount of smocks to have made as a group, and to be able to donate nearly 1,000 of them in total is amazing.
ReplyDeleteIt was amazing at the response to this charity sew-along! 1000 sounds like a lot, and it is! But he need is far greater than that, which is scary.
DeleteWhat a great way to spend time sewing with friends - for a great cause. They are precious, just like the children who will use them.

DeleteThese are just so dear--and what a wonderful way to help parents feel like something in their lives is feeling more normal. Have to ask--how do these/or do they close? (That pin's got me thinking. .)
ReplyDeleteThe pin was just to keep it together for the photo! We use velcro on the sides…which makes it easy for the nurses to do what they do best!
DeleteI've never seen NICU smocks like these. I am thankful every single day that DT didn't have to spend any time in the NICU. Thank you for making these with your quilty pals.
ReplyDeleteBefore I joined a guild, I never knew there was such a thing as NICU smocks. It makes you feel good to help even if its in a tiny way. Having healthy babies is always a blessing, we were both lucky in that department!

ReplyDeleteThese are adorable and must put a joyful spot of color in the NICU. I did not know there was such a thing as smocks for babies in the NICU. That's an incredible project and number of smocks!

ReplyDeleteThese are so teeny, tiny! With two healthy size boys, I never had such small things for them, and it's hard for me to imagine babies so small. I'm sure that this is such a super blessing to the hospital and family that are going through ICU care.
ReplyDeleteOur American women's club has been sewing heart pillows for the last several years for breast cancer patients, and I have to admit that charity sewing is great... to bring a little joy and light into a dark situation with just a few stitches - there's nothing better!
I'm guessing you use quilting cotton for the right side, but what do you use for the inside fabric? Flannel maybe?
