My print stash is a mess. Fugly with a capital 'F'!! This year I will weed through, destash (did that on instagram!) and fine tune.
Right before the holidays I made it a mission to search, find and buy some fabric that I have always loved and wanted. This fabric was so hard to track down. I put a mosaic on Instagram, as an 'I Wish I Had It' print. Much to my surprise there were people who were willing to give, GIVE me that fabric! Quilter's are amazing, generous and the kindest people I have met! I still wanted to give it a go and track down my wish fabric.
And then I found it! It was really hard to locate! I found flannel, voile and rayon pretty easily ~ not what I was looking for. Cotton please. Are you in suspense at what fabric I'm talking about? Okay, I'll tell you!

Thank you Stitch Supply Company! I finally have my wish fabric!! Shall I hoard it and admire it sitting on my shelf? Let's hope not!

The Fibs & Fables and Abacus fabrics were from Hawthorne Threads. I sometimes can't believe how fast they ship orders!
I'm happy! Great fabric, hard to find fabric and oops...more on the way! It's prints! Truth is I have to have something spectacular to fill my new cart!

Should not be a surprise. ... but I have that same Echinecea fabric, the yellow one. I've made several thing's with it. We always seem to have similar taste. :)
ReplyDeleteWe do have similar tastes! I have always loved that fabric and since I didn't jump when the line first came out, I decided I would hunt it down and buy it no matter what!
DeleteThat Abacus print is awesome. I don't know that I have a particular wish fabric that I just have to have... I am a sucker for rocket themed prints, but with no real need for them, I just like to be thrilled when I see nerdy fabric. :)
ReplyDeleteI feel like this may be the first time I'm on the front edge of a collection with Abacus! The trick will be using it and not staring at it for months or years! Nerdy fabric is fun and I admire your will power not to grab the rockets!!
DeleteThat cart looks very handy. I can imagine putting pulled fabric in the top, wheeling it to the ironing board, cutting, then slipping what is left to a bottom shelf, then putting left overs away. DeleteI love those IKEA carts...they are perfect for quilters. I've been admiring the Blueberry Park collection and finally treated myself to a layer cake. I too hope to find the courage to cut it up and use!

ReplyDeleteI fell in love with Abacus Artifact when I bought a fat eight of it!! Right then and there I knew I needed to buy a big chunk of it! The cart is wonderful! My first one and I have plans for more (love the color!)
DeleteSuch a cool idea to seek out fabrics that have been haunting your memory. If one can't stop thinking about something, it probably means it's meant to be. And don't you just love a Raskog cart? I could put one in every room.
ReplyDeleteI plan on getting another (or three) of those carts! They belong in every room or in one room…it doesn't matter to me! You know me, I'm never on the front edge of anything! I decided it would be a mission of mine to get that AMH fabric…or die trying!

DeleteAwesome additions!!!! When I finally hit the buy button on my Modern Meadows, Flower Fields in sunset, it was a couple years old and getting hard to find...3 yards fit in my cart real nicely :) I love it as much today as when I first started crushing on it...orange, with a splash of aqua, citron and white...mmmm!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how one piece of fabric will do that! When you are drawn to and in love with a specific piece…GET IT!! I wish there had been 3 yards of each of the AMH fabric, but I'll settle for what I did get!

DeleteI don't have any must-have fabrics, I mostly just pick what I find interesting. I saw all of your destashing on instagram. I'd been meaning to ask you how it went and how you actually go about getting payment, etc. Been thinking about parting with some of my stash but not sure how to go about it.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a dream print or favourite designer...I like individual pieces of some collections, but I love all things blue. Doesn't seem to matter what the design or tone, I just want the blue one!!

ReplyDeleteI was thinking about the Field Study linen print with the feathers on the very dark background and almost died of happiness when I found some for a normal price on etsy. I never thought I'd have that for myself!

ReplyDeleteFor me, my wish was those adorable frogs (in indigo) from Tula Pink's Prince Charming line. Tula Pink came out and got big while I was on sewing hiatus, and I missed her earlier lines. I recently bought myself a small zipper pouch made out of that fabric (figuring if I couldn't have the fabric, I could at least have something made out of it) and then I thought to ask the seller if she had any extra fabric that she'd be interested in selling. She did and I happily added a fat quarter to my stash. I think it's harder to use out of print/no longer available fabric. I mean, I want to use it to make something good. Just not entirely sure what that will be. Maybe I'll work it into my Swoon project, I think it works with my color scheme and that's a quilt I'm definitely keeping for me. Enjoy your new finds. Use them! :-)
ReplyDeleteThere are definitely fabrics I wish i had bought more of - one was a painterly fabric that I would gladly buy an entire bolt of if ever I saw it again, but I do not know the name or maker or anything about it - I got it years ago, used it all up and never checked to see who made it! I too love that cart, especially the color. I am going to go through my stash soon, too. Again. Somehow I still have stuff I'm not using...don't have a clue how that happens...(heh heh)
ReplyDeleteI like Lizzy House's butterflies (not the pinned to a board to be studied from her Natural History line but the nearly tone on tone with lots of polka dots in the background). She seems to include one or two of those in each new line or maybe every second line she puts out. There are two colourways of the butterflies in Hello Pilgrim which was YEARS ago so I am SOL on that. Boo.
