Hearts Win ~ Quilts For Pulse

I'm sure many of you are aware of the amazing efforts of the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild   asking for quilts or blocks to benefit the victims/survivors of the Orlando Pulse Night Club shooting.  The tragedy has touch many of us in one way or another.

The out pour of love, donations and willingness to help is second to none.  I'm proud to be a part of the quilting community that has embraced this worthy cause.  You can find the details for quilt donations at The Orlando Modern Quilt Guild, as well as The Modern Quilt Guild.

Our Guild, Music City Modern Guild started making blocks at our last meeting.  We sat for an afternoon and made enough blocks for two quilts.  A great start!  Plus there are many others who are still making blocks and quilts.  Me for one!

Rainbows and hearts.  The tutorial for these 10" hearts is available from Cluck Cluck Sew. Any heart, any rainbow quilt will not be turned away!  As long as they are 10" (10 1/2" unfinished)

These hearts are very easy to make and you'll soon be saying 'just one more'!  You can be creative, or make it simple.

I made plenty 10" hearts, and then decided to give the 7" heart a try as well.  I had to add a border around the heart to make it the size requested.  But I like really like the combination of the two different sizes.

After I finished the quilt top, I had yet another idea!  Naturally I had to give it a try or else go insane!

I wondered what a reversed heart would look like.  I tried, I like and I made....

I'm not sure if I'll be able to make another quilt top or not.  One way or another these extra blocks will make there way down to Florida in hopes of becoming a beautiful quilt that will wrap around someone for comfort, love and a great big hug.

The power of love is strong.  Love is Love.  And Love Wins!

  1. Ohh, this is the brightest one I've seen yet! Beautiful!! I love how some of the hearts are smaller. My guild members have started sending me hearts of all sizes in ten inch blocks, too.

    1. I really wanted to make a quilt top, but also wanted to make it my own…if that makes sense! These quilts are truly going to be appreciated and I love that there are so many who are coming together! To me, a rainbow is a vibrant ray of sunshine…I'm so glad it shows through in this quilt top!

    1. I naturally had to change it up a little bit without messing with the theme or meaning behind it! I'm very happy with it and know that where ever it ends up it will be a quilt of love!

    1. There wasn't any question if I would participate. The tragedy hit too close to home for me. Our quilting community is special and I really am proud of the turnout for this cause!

  4. Thank you, Jayne, for your compassion. I'm proud to be a quilter, especially at this moment in history, as this outpouring of love happens. All this love and acceptance will bring comfort to those who have been directly impacted by the Orlando tragedy and to the rest of the gay community who, like me, are witnessing this healing response.

    1. Love and acceptance is a basic human need. For everyone. The healing of the victims will take a long time, but knowing there is an 'army' of support behind them has got to help!

  8. Jayne, your generosity is just amazing. We have been blown away with how much the quilting community has supported us in our efforts. I'm confident that we will gather more than enough quilts to be donated to everyone here in Orlando who wants/needs one. We can't thank you enough!

    1. There was no doubt that I was going to make a quilt top for Quilts for Pulse. The tragedy solidified many, brought awareness in more ways than one and deeply touched my heart. I think the community of quilters has come together in a big, big way!

  12. I love the reversed hearts! It's been so fun to see the blocks and quilts come in on the #orlandomqg instagram page. I am sandwiching my quilt today and hope to have a blog post up about it next week! Love what you're doing. Quilters are the best!
