It's Been So Long...But Worth The Wait!

I can't remember the last time I bought fabric!  I think that might be a good sign.  At least I shall tell myself that.  Other than a few pieces for backings, which in my book does not count as 'fabric', I've been on a virtual fabric diet!

While I still haven't figured out what to do with the fabric I'm not attached to in my stash, I slowly continue to build on the 'good stuff' that is essential!

I do love a good bundle of Low Volume fabric!  When I saw this fat eighth stack from Pink Castle Fabrics, I knew it needed to head my way!

You know how sometimes it's a fifty fifty bundle, half is good and half is just so so?  This one is 100% all good!  Love each and every one.  My one regret...I wish I had bought another one!  This is a good addition to what I have already.  There won't be any excuses now!

This is just about as cute as can be!  I'll take some time to admire it before I whack it to pieces!

I've made HUGE progress on my Striped Octagon EPP project!  Yay!  The size mishap ended up not making a difference in the least!

As I was stitching the pieces together in the evenings, I would get a flash of an idea on where to take it.  Should I leave it as it is?  Wall hanging, quilt, runner...pillow?

When the BIG idea hit me, it stuck with me and I couldn't do anything else but follow through with my vision!  There were times when I changed my mind and had to rethink a few thing.  I even had to redo a couple spots a few times until it was as good as I could get it.

I'll share more details soon!  I'm super excited about this one!  Sometimes I feel like I've lost creativity and quirkiness in my quilt designing lately.  This put that thought to rest!

You can get the free pattern here:  'Striped Octagon'  from Tierney Barden.  I've got ideas for my next batch!

  5. good buy on that fabric - as I was putting fabric in bins so store while the sewing room is made over I found I have very little in the neutrals and need to keep my eye out for more

  7. The low volume bundle looks amazing; having fun LVs on hand to work with seems essential these days and I can remember when I was confused about the fabric trend. And I loved watching the way the Striped Octagon quilt top came together! :)

  8. Gotta love those low volume prints. IMHO, you can never have too many low volumes.
Your octagon quilt is truly inspired! The whole is definitely greater than the sum on the parts.

    1. I just learning that about Low Volume! It’s really fun to go crazy once in a while when designing a quilt! I’ve missed thinking up designs on the fly!

  11. I love where this ended up! And I'm glad you're giving your quirky a chance to shine! I love your more structured work just as much, but it's great to see both sides at play. :)

    1. It’s a crazy process, but one I like to do on occasion! Letting a quilt or a block tell you where to take the design doesn’t happen all the time, but when it works…it’s magic!

  18. I think fat eighths, fat 16ths, and even fat quarters are pretty useless to buy. And don't even get me going on pre-cut charms, squares, layer cakes, and jelly rolls. Some of these smaller cuts end up costing a ridiculous amount when you convert them to yardage!
I know the arguments--lets you have many cuts and is more affordable. But in my opinion, if you like a fabric--buy it like you mean it.
I like half-yard bundles at the minimum. And if I really love a fabric I buy 2 or 4 yards.
