I'm in love with this design! From the design to colors to quilting, it hits all the high notes for me. I've been itching to use purple in a quilt for quite awhile and it feels good to finally get that off my plate!
PURPLE MAJESTY 46 1/2" X 61" |
It took two weeks to receive the background fabric after I ordered it. Far too long when you just want to finish a quilt!
I ended up washing the fabric three times until it was free of dye on my color catchers. I had an issue years ago with purple fabric bleeding and I didn't want it to happen again. Once the quilt was completely finished I washed it again and the color catcher was free of purple, so it worked!
Once the background fabric was washed and pressed it took very little time to assemble the quilt top. I wanted a quick finish when I first started this quilt and then had to sit on my hands for two weeks!
I used matching thread to quilt lines in four (4) of the blocks. Each one was identical, so at least I didn't have to come up with a new idea each time! For the last two (2) I quilted 1/2" diagonal lines to break it up a bit and give a little unexpected twist.
For a better visual of the different thread color and quilting design the back always reveals the truth!
All in all I couldn't be more pleased with this quilt or the design. Plus, I've knocked purple off my list! Not that my list ever gets smaller...it just changes on occasion!
It was a fun quilt to make and I will make it again. Perhaps using different shades of gray!
I am so glad to read that after pre-washing three times, the color catchers didn't pick up dye after you finished the quilt. It's stunning, Jayne. That deep, rich purple is so appealing. Beautiful finish!
ReplyDeleteYou had me at purple! Such a great color. JMHO, but it was worth waiting for!
ReplyDeleteIt was worth waiting for the background fabric in the end!
DeleteBeautiful finish, Jayne!
ReplyDeleteSo love the solids! Great quilt! Stay safe and sew on!
ReplyDeleteThat is just gorgeous, Jayne! I love how the different purples play together!
ReplyDeleteI had been waiting for a long time to make a purple quilt! I just didn’t have a clear picture of what that would look like until this design!
DeleteHow can you not like that purple quilt! Amazing.
ReplyDeleteYum....Purple! I really love that dark shade in the background. Thanks for sharing with oh Scrap!
ReplyDeletethe design is perfect, graphic and stunning. a gray version would be cool too... waiting to see
ReplyDeleteIt is perfect! You married the design and quilting with panache as usual!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great layout! Awesome quilt.
ReplyDeleteThis is really pretty!
ReplyDeleteIt glows!!! Positively, perfect in Purple :-)
ReplyDeleteI love this! Once again, you knocked it out of the park. Well done.
ReplyDeleteSo glad your triple washing resolved the purple dye bleed. I don't understand how some quilters have made many quilts for decades and have never had a dye bleed problem, yet I've had reds that bled, greens that bled, deep blues that bled... I have learned my lesson the hard way that even prewashing is no guarantee, so now I clip a corner off of any suspect fabric, drop it in a clear glass of hot water set on a hot paper towel, and wait to see if the water turns into KoolAid or Easter egg dye.
